Ashford Traditional

An Ashford Traditional was my first wheel. It's a great place to begin spinning. In recent years, the folks at Ashford have designed an array of wonderful accessories for this wheel, giving the spinner who adds them to the Traditional great latitude in the type of yarns that she can produce with this equipment. At the same time, the basic wheel is very affordable and quite a workhorse. Comes in single treadle with Scotch Tension or Double Drive. Add on available for double treadle.

Ashford Joy

When I spun on the Joy for the first time shortly after it came out, I was delighted at the treadle action, ease of spinning, and the efficient design. The lines of this spunky travelling wheel are elegant, reminding me of the flying buttresses at Notre Dame -- all that's missing is the stained glass! I've taken the Joy with me on airplane journeys, and not only is it light enough to carry all the way to gate H18 (quite a hike), it fits easily into the overhead bin on an airplane. A wheel complete unto itself. Lacquered finish folding portable.

Two ratio's, 80:1 for cotton, silk, angora or fine wool or 16:1 for medium longer fibres. Set the wheel up with the crank on either the left or right hand side. Light and smooth to turn as wheel, spindle and countershaft rotate on ball bearings. The spindle is made from 4mm (5/32") stainless steel and the base sits on non-slip rubber feet. The spindle can be rotated sideways for safety and transport.
