The Vicuña
was put on the Endangered Species List in the 1960's. It has been illegal
to own skins or fur since that time. Because of careful shepherding of
the flock, the vicuña population has rebounded to over 150,000.
Once again, the villagers are harvesting the fleece - they are NOT killing
and individuals. All of the fiber is very carefully tracked by the government
with a paper trail, and the animals are being treated royally. |
| Soft and luscious and very rare, tests around 13
microns. $250/oz. |
